“What’s wrong Peter?” I asked, eyeing the serious expression on his face as I plopped down beside him.
He scowled, though not at me and gestured to the papers on the table. “Take a look and see for yourself woman,” he said grouchily.
I leaned over his shoulder to read the paper. It was a list of bills. And on it was his current salary. The two numbers didn’t match. I cringed. That made three months in a row we were behind on our rent. Hidden underneath the main bills was another, bright pink paper. I pulled it out and Peter slammed his fist down on the table

I shivered a bit as we rounded the bend and looked around. Vanessa and Sove’s neighborhood was a nice, middle class suburban neighborhood with large acre homes and yards and nearly every house had brilliant Christmas lights adorning their homes. Some had trees showing in their windows. The sight made me slightly jealous. I wanted to decorate for Christmas, but Peter wouldn’t let me, owing to the fact that he didn’t believe in Christmas.
I sighed and shivered again as we came within sight of their house and the many cars parked there.
